Latest 60 mile canoe journey from Aviemore to Moray Firth

In 40 years of paddling the majestic waters of the River Spey, I have never seen so many beautiful salmon jumping ~ literally hundreds, shining silver as they leapt into the bright sunlight during my most recent 60 mile canoe journey from Aviemore to Moray Firth ~ 21st to 25th August.

The majority of these handsome fish, were not too keen to sample the pretty feathered flies offered by the many anglers along the way. However, my group witnessed in awe the landing of two beautiful fish ~ each approx 12lbs ~ one at Cobble Pots, Arndilly Estate above Rothes and other on Cairnty, Orton Estate, below Rothes.

Also, during this trip, in discussion with several anglers there was mutual agreement that we were truly privileged to be following our respective interests as river users on this truly majestic river in such fine conditions.

Thunder In The Glens at Cairngorms National Park 2011

In addition to the wide variety of outdoor activities readily available ~ www.visitcairngorms.com ~ another great reason for visiting Strathspey this weekend is to witness the spectacle of 'Thunder In The Glens' the now annual (15th) gathering of hundreds of Harley Davidson enthusiasts and their magnificent motorcycles.
